Gather your supplies

Tick these off as you shop, borrow or pull them from the house. The list is a practical starting point, not a claim that every item is required.

How to run it

  1. Send the Invites

Send the Invites: Assign optional character identities (The Jazz Singer, The Corrupt Detective, The Bootleg King) three days ahead. Invite everyone to decline a role, costume or photographing.

  2. Set the Speakeasy Mood

Set the Speakeasy Mood: Use warm lighting that keeps the room, steps and exits visible, play slow jazz, and serve labelled alcohol-free mocktails in durable cups. Keep real alcohol optional, lawful and away from the room's walking route.

  3. Stage the Crime

Stage the Crime: After 30 minutes, announce a clearly fictional crime and distribute clue envelopes. The accused character should know the scenario is fictional and should never be held responsible for a real allegation.

  4. Run the Investigation

Run the Investigation: Let guests exchange clues, make deductions and opt out of intense role-play. Name the fictional culprit at the agreed finish time, then check that everyone has a safe transport plan home.
