About ideas.party
and the rules every plan follows.
ideas.party is a free, independent site of party ideas you can actually run. No account, no sign-up and no paywall: every guide, plan, generator and printable kit is open to anyone planning a gathering.
What you will find here
Most party-idea lists stop at the idea: "host a murder mystery", "try a taco bar". The work starts after that. Every plan on ideas.party carries the rest: a supply list, numbered steps, a run of show with timings, a rough budget, the group size it suits and what to do when it goes sideways.
- Occasion guides for birthdays, showers, holidays, farewells and everything between, starting at birthday party ideas and seasonal party ideas.
- Complete party plans in the catalog, each on its own printable page.
- Generators that match an idea to your budget, group and setting, starting with the party idea generator.
- Calculators and kits for the parts nobody wants to guess: food quantities, budgets and timing, plus printable checklists.
How plans are written
Every idea has to pass the same tests before it is published:
- It gives guests something to do. A theme is only useful if it changes what people do, wear, eat or talk about. Decoration-only ideas do not make the cut.
- It explains the mechanism. Each plan says why it works, such as putting the main activity at the halfway mark because guests arrive across the first hour, so you can adapt it instead of following it blindly.
- It is specific. Quantities, timings and a realistic budget range, not "add some snacks".
- It is safe and inclusive by default. Allergy labelling, supervision for children, accessible routes, opt-in participation for anything personal, and alcohol-free options wherever drinks come up.
- It respects the people involved. No humiliation games, no pressure to share, and no ideas that put a guest, a venue or the neighbors at risk.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment to include an idea, product or venue in a guide.
- We do not invent statistics, reviews or testimonials.
- We do not require an account, and the planning tools run in your browser. See the privacy page for exactly what is and is not collected.
Corrections and updates
Seasonal guides are reviewed ahead of each season, and plans are revised when a step turns out to be unclear or a safety note needs strengthening. If something on a page is wrong or out of date, the page will be corrected rather than quietly left in place.
